Byward, Rideau, and a very drunk woman...not in that order.

Today was my first day adventuring by myself in the wonderful city of Ottawa. I am feeling a little better today since the meds are starting to kick in! I started my adventure by heading to the Rideau Center just to wander around and get my bearings and such. The Rideau took me all of...3? 4? minutes to walk to the top doors. All I really did there was wander around and look in stores. It was more about getting out of the house and breaking in my new birks. Blisters galore at the moment. But they will get better to walk in as I adventure. The Rideau is huge! Like...BIG. They have everything a teenage girl would ever look for. Abercrombie and Fitch, Apple, American Eagle, so on and so forth. But Its still a good place to know your way around.

After that I headed out the parliment doors. Not those Funky seventies ones....I hope people get my parliment joke...but the ones that put you right on parliment hill and on your way to the Byward market area. The Market is the best thing in the world, aside from puppies...and really...I saw a lot of puppies there anyway! It has HUNDREDS of little stalls and booths and stores. Think, Wolfville market times the Fredericton Market times the Halifax market and we may be getting close. Its my personal heaven. If I were getting cremated I would want them to scatter my ashes there. I went to this amazing french patisserie where I got une pain francais...french bread... and a few truffles. Sweet chili, penut butter, and pure wonderful chocolate. Then I went to the tea store where I bought...TEA! Good ol' Twinings Lady Grey. My absolute favorite. You know the one. The blue tin of loose tea with flecks of bergamot in it. YUM. Then it was off to this whole in the wall indian place. There I got a very nice samosa and some butter chicken for lunch. Also great.

By this time, I'm about 6-8 blocks-ish from home. Its a small jaunt, but its also like 35 degrees here today, so it was a bit unpleasant. But what did make it interesting, if not pleasant, was my encounter with a drunk woman. I first saw her ahead of me doing leg stretches on the gates of a restaurant. Like full on, leg up on the bar, stretching in front of people eating their food. Ew. Anyway, I passed her. About a block later, she accedentally stumbled into me as we were going down the sidewalk, but she quickly stumbled in another direction, so I thought our encounter was over. False. At the lights, I had the pleasure of being (and theres really no other word for this) groped as she tried to stand and wait for the light to change. She came from behind and grabbed shoulders, bum, back and arms to steady herself. It was awkward. She did stumble off quickly though once the light changed, and she must have changed direction because I didnt see ... or feel... her again. I would like to say something like " ohhh cities!" here, but to be honest, I've had WAY more invasive things happen to me in Truro. Being dry humped by a drunk 14 year old boy offering to by me a rose outside a coffee shop at 9 pm on a thursday in Truro still takes that cake...

Anyway, I'm home now for the night. I think thats all the movement and excitement my recovering body can take for today. I really like Ottawa though so far. Its big and has lots of stores and people and different languages to listen to, but its still very small and laid back when compared to somewhere like Toronto. Its just my fit.

All the best to everyone, and a huge WELCOME HOME MEGHAN to my Meggypoo.

Jacob
