I promise I will keep this part brief. But it needs to be said. I am amazed how the city of Ottawa doesnt have mass health epidemics weekly! Trying to get penicillin for my strep throat was like trying to find Atlantis. Between the clinics that dont take out of province people, the places that only do walk ins on wednesdays, the places that are a forty minute drive away and the places that have a three hour waiting period, I am astonished that there arent people dying in the streets trying to find medical attention. I tried to go to 5...count em 5, different walk in places before I finially founf the amazing people at the U of O campus health center. They were great, but the rest of them....grrrrrr. Anyway, I'm still feeling a bit shitty, but I have meds now at least, so I should be right as rain in the next few days.
Enough of that. Yesterday was my parents last day here. After clinic hunting for a couple hours, we went grocery shopping, had some indian food, and went to thier hotel for a little air conditioning. It was good. They were really gunning to go somewhere out for supper, but I really wasnt feeling up to it. Its ok, the indian food we ordered was great. They said when they went to go get it, the man cooked the naan right in front of them which is pretty cool. There really is nothing better than hot fresh buttery naan. They were on the road at 7 this morning heading back to fredericton for the night. When I was talking to them they were stopped at the fresh cheese place in Quebec about an hour from edmonston.
I had a very nice skype date with Nicole today who is in London!...or just outside it. It was great. I heard about all her adventures in Bristol and got updates on Tara Brenna and Morgan who are also all there. Well Brenna is home now, but she was there! In other far away places news, my dear friend Meghan comes home from her year in Korea TOMORROW!!!!!!!!! No words possible for how excited I am to have her back in Canada, even if its in Nova Scotia. I told her family they only have three days with her before her manditory trip to Ottawa. I hope they are ok with that. Not like they have much choice.
Tomorrow, I hope to get out to a place thats not medical related. The walk to the health center today though was through campus, and I got to see some of the buildings and such. Its a very city campus for those of you who dont know it. Its a bit of a shock going from somewhere like Acadia to U of O. Acadia is like a beautiful garden everywhere, and when you look from the top of the hill, you stare at the cliff of Blomidon and the ocean below it. The scenery is actually breathtaking on a summer day. I miss it. I did see a tree though in front of one of the buildings here though..... I kidd! ...sort of. . .
Had a nice talk with Will Fisher today for those of you who know him. He is all settled in Luisville doing his masters of Jazz Drumming there. Last time we talked he was just getting there, but he was telling me today that he has a very nice apt. with TWO fireplaces, and is very close to his school. Very nice! Its funny. Nicole and I were talking about how we should set up a group conference skyping time between all our friends every week so we can all hear each others voices and catch up. But we realzed that between Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, London, and Paris...Hayley would have to be online at 8 am, me and kriss at 10, Steph and NS people at 11, Nicole at 3pm and Ally at 4. How weird is that. Its a very strange feeling knowing that the people you spent every day with in the same very small town, are now just about as far appart geographically as is possible. Google Earth tells me that they are 7395 km away from each other. Scary huh!
Anyway. I will let you all know how my explorations go tomorrow. I hope i'm well enough to at least get a block or two about.
As always, miss you all.
Jacob
